When most people think about Texas, the cities of Austin, Huston, San Antonio and obviously Dallas come to mind. Often called Triple D, Dallas is one of the biggest cities in Texas and home to the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Dallas-Forth Worth Arlington Metropolitan Area consists of a total of 12 counties. These counties include Hunt, Wise, Collin, Dallas, Rockwall, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Delta, Kaufman, Parker, and Tarrant. The Dallas-Plano-Irving metropolitan division is smaller and has a total of 8 counties which include Dallas, Rockwall, Delta, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Kaufman and Ellis. It also has a population of around 4.6 million residents.

Dallas is smack in the middle of the US’ Central Time Zone. It is 35 miles east of Forth Worth, and around 300 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

Dallas is also home to a couple of big businesses like JC Penny, Exxon Mobil, Texas Instruments and AT&T amongst around 21 Fortune 500 companies.

Recreation and Sports
Dallas is home to five professional teams including the Dallas Stars (NHL), Dallas Cowboys(NFL), Dallas Wings (WNBA), FC Dallas (MLS), Texas Rangers (MLB), NASCAR, Dallas Mavericks (NBA) and Indy Racing. Furthermore, it is the perfect place for golfers with over 200 golf courses.
The Home of German Chocolate
Most people will probably debate that German chocolate came from Germany when it fact it was invented in Dallas. It was 1957 when German chocolate cake made it to the American consumer for the first time by none other than Samuel German. The term ‘German’ has nothing to do with the country but everything to do with the inventor’s last name. His original formulation is used to this day.

The Margarita Machine Was Invented in Dallas
Do you like frozen margaritas? Well, who does not? If anything all fans of frozen margaritas have none other than Dallas native Mariano Martinez to thank. He invented the first frozen margarita machine back in 1971, which effectively increased the demand for tequila as well as became widely associated with Tex-Mex cuisine, hence its growth in popularity.
The Longest Running State Fair
The State Fair of Texas has been running for over a hundred and twenty years. The only exceptions since 1886 were in 1918 when it was cancelled for the first world war, and subsequently during the Second World War from 1942-1945.

Dallas was Home to the First-Ever Cheerleading Squad
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were the very first ones, and the squad was formed back in 1972. They were the very first professional cheerleading squad. Today there are dozens of squads with hundreds of young women participating from across the US.
